Brandy Says Boyz II Men Star Wanya Morris ‘Took Advantage’ Of Her At 16: ‘I Was A Child, He Was An Adult’
R&B icon Brandy is opening up about a painful chapter from her past, detailing her former relationship with Boyz II Men star Wanya Morris in her memoir “Phases.”
In the book, she reveals she was just 16 when their relationship began, while Morris was in his early 20s, despite him previously claiming they began dating when she was 18.
Their connection formed after working together on “Brokenhearted,” but quickly evolved into a secret romance she now says had lasting emotional effects.
“I was in over my head. Sneaking around with Wanya and lying to my parents had become a constant. They barely liked the idea of me dating at all, and telling them about us was out of question,” she writes.
Brandy explains that both of them made a deliberate effort to keep the relationship hidden from the public.
“Wanya and I understood, with diamond-cut clarity that public knowledge of our relationship would ignite scandal,” she shares, noting they maintained the appearance of waiting until she turned 18.
With time and reflection, she says she now sees clear warning signs she didn’t recognize then.
“These are the things that with hindsight you realize are wildly obvious signs of something wrong,” she writes, admitting she was young and unsure of what she was experiencing.
Their relationship eventually ended after she discovered he had been unfaithful. Addressing how Morris has described their past, she firmly states, “I believe he took advantage.”
“The shame ends here. The silence ends here,” she adds. “I was a child. And he was an adult.”
