India.Arie Clarifies She Never Called For A Boycott Of Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat,” But The Record Being A Hit Is A ‘Sign Of Where We Are As A Culture
India.Arie is clearing the air, making it abundantly clear she never called for a boycott of #YungMiami’s music.
The R&B and neo-soul singer has been catching heat after her recent comments about Miami’s “Spend Dat,” which dropped in April, with some fans assuming she supported a boycott after interacting with a post pushing the idea. But #IndiaArie quickly shut that down, saying she didn’t start the conversation and adding, “I don’t think this song should be boycotted.” While she stood by her opinion that the popular track is a “sign of where we are as a culture,” she also made it clear listeners can “do whatever they want” when it comes to playing it — or not. As for the backlash, India didn’t mince words, saying “This WHOOOOLE thing is ABSURD.” Yung Miami has yet to weigh in.
