Michael Jackson’s Half-Sister Joh’Vonnie Says Joe Jackson’s Portrayal In “Michael” Biopic Isn’t The Father She Knew

#MichaelJackson’s half-sister Joh’Vonnie Jackson is opening up about her relationship with their late father, #JoeJackson, and says the man portrayed in the “Michael” biopic isn’t the dad she personally knew.

During an appearance on FOX 5 Atlanta’s “Portia,” Joh’Vonnie praised her nephew #JaafarJackson’s portrayal of Michael but admitted she wasn’t a fan of Colman Domingo’s depiction of Joe. “That’s not the Joe Jackson I experienced,” she said. Still, Joh’Vonnie acknowledged that her experience was different from that of her older siblings, explaining, “I didn’t have to deal with the young Joseph.” She also made it clear Joe wasn’t exactly a pushover with her, adding, “I got my fair share of spankings from him as well.”

Joh’Vonnie, who is the daughter of Joe and Cheryle Ann Terrell, grew up outside the household where the #Jackson5 and other famous siblings were raised and has previously spoken about feeling like an outsider in the family, though she developed a close relationship with her half-sister Rebbie. She also addressed those complicated family dynamics in her memoir “Bastard Child,” which she began writing at 15 and didn’t finish until her mid-40s. Joh’Vonnie described finally telling her story as “the most cleansing thing” and defended sharing experiences that could make some relatives uncomfortable, saying, “It’s my experience, nobody else’s.”
