Celebrity Hairstylist Terrence Davidson Speaks Out, Since Splitting From Nicki Minaj: ‘Everything Happens For A Reason’
This week, surprising news hit that Nicki Minaj had to decided to say deuces to her glam squad and long-time hair stylist, Terrence Davidson. While the details remain fuzzy, this news isn’t really ‘new’ to some of us. Earlier this year, we received a statement from Terrence’s camp, announcing that he had moved on. He explained:
“I would like to inform the media and supporters that I’ve decided to step away as hair stylist and wig creator for Nicki Minaj. It has been an amazing experience offering me a chance to express my creativity and exhibit my love for the art form of wig design. I have decided to part ways from Nicki Minaj because I would like to explore other opportunities within my own brand and re-energize my creativity through work in fashion editorial, beauty consultations, media personality, ‘how-to’ lectures and hair show development. I am very proud of the body of work built with Nicki Minaj and I appreciate the support over the years from fans who’ve expressed love for my craft. Look forward to seeing me larger than life in 2013.”
To date, neither Nicki nor Terrence have discussed what ended their business relationship. Recently, we caught up with the celebrity hairstylist, to get his two cents on the rumors. And while we couldn’t get him to spill the tea (hell, we tried!), we briefly chatted with him about how he continues to progress, professionally. Check out our brief conversation below.
TJB: You’ve been pretty quiet since moving on from working with Nicki Minaj. Are you surprised that it’s such a big story in the press?
I’m not surprised.
TJB: Looking back, is there anything that you wish that you could have done differently, working with such a huge artist?
No, everything happens for a reason you live and you learn.
TJB: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, in terms of creativity, by working with Nicki?
What the wash won’t do, the rinse will…. :)
TJB: So I hear, your schedule is just as busy as it was, while you were touring w/ her. What have you been up to these days?
I have partnered with Mizani, to transforms the lives of young children living with hair lost illnesses. The Wigs4Kids organization is making a big difference in their community, but we are looking to make it global.
Do you have any new celebrity clients that you’re working with?
Actually, I just recently worked with a artist named Nikki Williams. I can’t get away from my Nickis.
Before we let you go, let’s talk hair for a moment. What’s the best way to keep your hair healthy, if you wear a lot of weaves?
I recommend sew-ins and wigs. Less chemicals and heat as possible.
TJB: What’s the absolute longest you should leave a sew-in, in your head?
Two months.
TJB: What kind of tips can you give someone like me, who has color in their hair, to keep it healthy?
Mizani products are the best products for dyed hair. Keep you hair moisturized and also use a hot oil treatment.
TJB: Any predictions on what the new hair trend will be this spring/summer?
I never tell my secrets.
TJB: What hair or weave style do you hate that’s out right now?
I hate the invisible part.
TJB: Last question, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want to be remembered as the hair stylist that was so different then the rest.
