Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club Is In Deep Trouble

Jay-Z is currently under fire for a situation involving labor standards at his 40/40 Club. The first time his club had labor issues was in 2008, when workers sued him for violating minimum wage laws. This time around, he’s catching heat for violating area labor standards.
Currently, the club is closed due to renovations. The New York City District Council of Carpenters (NYCDC) claims that the construction company hired to do the renovations, Conelle Construction Corp., “does not meet area labor standards, including providing or fully paying for family healthcare and pension for all of its carpenter craft employees.”

NYCDC also alleges that there are “substandard wages” being paid to its carpenters. Jay-Z is partially responsible because as the owner of the property, NYCDC holds him accountable “to see that area labor standard are met for construction work on their future location.”
To make matters even more interesting, in protest, there are four nearly twenty foot blown up floats of rats facing the club. That’s a helluva way to send a message. Ouch.
