Touré Refers to Tyler Perry’s Films As “Cinematic Malt Liquor”

CNN’s social commentator Touré harshly criticized Tyler Perry yesterday while on CNN’s Newsroom.
Touré began his criticism with explaining that, “Tyler Perry is one of the worst if not the worst director in Hollywood and ignorant of the craft” and went on to call Perry’s films “Cinematic malt liquor for the masses”.
Touré‘s critique continued with,
“Tyler Perry is definitely serving an audience that is underserved by Hollywood. Especially black southern women do not see themselves at all in Hollywood fare. So, when he’s serving them movies where they appear to be in situations that are naturalistic and recognizable to them and definitely have that Christian message, I absolutely understand why my grandmother, my mother, and my aunts love this stuff, and my family down south, they love this stuff. I just can’t watch it without cringing because I’ve seen good movies and I know these are poorly made films,”

Toure is a girl.
Of COURSE he has a point! That’s not really even the question… the real question is why are we so desperate to laugh that we will celebrate the most ignorant depictions of our people, whether in exploitation ridden visual trash like Perry’s or audio garbage like Soulja Boy’s ( I refuse to call either film or music) and yes- Perry is to cinema what Souja Boy is to music. Name one other racial group that supports the most detrimental aspects of its culture to the point of making its creators multi-millionaires…. you can’t because it doesn’t exist outside of our community. Until we demand more of ourselves individually we won’t get more for ourselves collectively. #BringSpikeLeeBack!
I agree with Toure’ to a certain extent.
