Betsey Johnson’s Franchise Goes Bankrupt, Workers Lose Jobs + Reality TV Gig Announced

69-year old fashion designer Betsey Johnson has hit some financial trouble. Her clothing enterprise just went bankrupt this past Thursday (April 26th). After struggling for a few years, most of her 63 independent boutiques will now close. This means that about 350 store workers will be jobless after the May 8th liquidation. Despite the downfall of her company, Betsey will still have her designing job, now focusing on designing low-priced clothing for major retailers that sell her brand. Johnson spoke with Women’s Wear Daily on how she feels about her new gig. She explained,
“I love the moderate price range. It is in sync with all the girls who are buying my clothes.”
On a more positive note, Style Network has given Betsey Johnson and her daughter their own reality show, titled “Betsey + Lulu!” Will you tune in?
