Angela Bassett Recalls Awkward Moment with Ike Turner
A few years ago, actress Angela Bassett had a potentially uncomfortable moment, when running across the late Ike Turner on a street in Los Angeles. Why uncomfortable? It may have something to do with her playing Tina Turner in the 1993 biographical film, “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”
As most of us recall, Ike Turner, who was Tina’s husband, used to be extremely abusive and this was illustrated in the film. Fast forward to the present day and Bassett recalled seeing him for the first time recently in LA. She explained,
“I saw [Ike] coming towards me. We locked eyes, and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, boy. There’s Ike. What’s he going to say?’ He smiled big and said, ‘Listen, I’m working on my own movie, and I want you to be in it.’ ”
