Take That Sh*t To Trial: Phaedra Parks Sues VIBE For $30 Million
Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member and self-proclaimed “Southern Belle,” Phaedra Parks, is suing VIBE magazine for $30 million in a defamation of character lawsuit. Back in March, VIBE published an excerpt of the tell-all book by Angela Stanton called “Lies of a Real Housewife: Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil”. In her memoir, Stanton claims that Phaedra and her then boyfriend Apollo, used to order others to scope out luxury vehicles, record VIN numbers and then helped to steal them and flip them for profit. Stanton also sat down with VIBE to discuss the book in detail.
In court documents obtained by Courtroom News Service, Phaedra claims that VIBE had knowledge that the allegations made by Stanton were false, yet published the story anyway. The documents also state that Phaedra claims to not have a personal working relationship or friendship with Stanton. Phaedra has not publicly made any statements regarding the lawsuit, but has hired super attorney Brenda Bernstein and Attorney L.Lin Wood (both big in Atlanta) to handle her case.
Meanwhile, Stanton has been retweeting news about the lawsuit all day and even tweeted “One thing about it, when you know you’re telling the truth you have nothing to worry about! #LiesOfaRealHouseWife. Phaedra don’t scare nobody! #LiesOfaRealHouseWife. Ok ppl listen… Vibe has been in biz over 20 yrs! They’re not going to throw that away on a lie! Trust me… They got this
Meanwhile, the lawsuit calls for $5 million in compensatory damage and another $25 million in punitive damages, attorney fees and a published retraction. [Courthouse News Service, C+D]
