Mona Scott-Young Responds to LHHA Critics, “Change the damn channel!”
Monday evening, the highly anticipated Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta spin-off reality show aired on VH1. The new show, which features Stevie J, Mimi Faust, Joseline, Lil Scrappy, Erica Dixon, “Momma Dee”, Rasheeda, Kirk Frost, K Michelle, and Karlie Redd, has everyone, we mean everyone talking. After the first episode aired, it appeared that the reviews were mixed. Some viewers were highly entertained, while others not-so-much. The show’s executive producer, Mona Scott-Young, responded via twitter to some of the people that have negative comments to make about the show. She tweeted:
You know what they say..”Shoot the messenger”. But more simply, if you don’t like the show…DON’T WATCH IT! Freedom of choice!! I just … the folks talking shit but glued to the screen. Change the damn channel!! LOL!
Does she have a point? If you don’t like it, should you just shut-up and turn the channel? Or is Mona responsible as the official ‘messenger’ of the show?

Only thing is that kids are watching it and they’re not always equipped to make a good choice about what they watch. Nothing new…
You are absolutely right. Kids are watching this filth. Mona is a sellout. How dare you put this trash on television for children especially African American children to see. The women appear to be weak, including Lil’ Scrappy’s mother. A pimp? Wow….is that okay for children to see. For thwe love of money…The cast and especially the producer have been sold out. Let’s get this show cancelled!!!!
What are you talking about the kids watching ? Why is any parent letting their child watch a channel like VH1 which aired shows like Flavor of Love, I Love NY and many other ADULT shows. VH1 is not a channel made for kids, so why should Mona be worrying about the kids watching. It’s their parents jobs to be worrying about that, not Mona’s.
I agree with you. I admit that Its a guilty pleasure for me, but, I would never let my children watch this show, its clearly for an adult audience. Thankfully I have two boys who have no interest in any of these type of shows.
In my opinion, I think Mona Scott is right. IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T WATCH IT.
I also hear a lot of people saying ‘oh, children watch this show’. As a PARENT, I do believe that you should manage what your kids watch. You as a PARENT should know what’s appropriate. If you wouldn’t let your child see for example a [Rated R] Movie, then I think you should treat these shows as the same. DON’T LET TELEVISION RAISE YOUR KIDS.
I also find it quite entertaining that people slander these shows and complain how bad it is -but seem to tune in EVERY time & continue to watch.
Right! I agree . Why are they watching it and complaining. Espeacially if they dont think that type of show is appropriate for any age. Like get over it.
I agree if you want to watch, do so if not be quiet. As far as the kids, thats up to the parents to monitor what is being watched.
If everybody changed the channel ratings would go down and people would be out of jobs..
It’s an adult show. Children shouldn’t be watching it. Everyone has the freedom to simply turn the channel. I find it entertaining but I don’t want to emulate these people and follow their every move. If some people weren’t so weak minded and followers then would see this show for what it is: entertainment.

Children definitely should not be watching this show. Hell, I don’t watch the show because I’d prefer to see black women doing more positive things but I do like the two shows that come on after it in my area…Single Ladies and Hollywood Exes.
The reality is its a scripted show as Kimbella exposed that. Now kids watching is horrible parenting. Mimi needs to seek counseling why she is at the beginning of the domestic violence wheel. She is very weak, tho her girl Ari tries to strengthen her. Joseline is damaged from her past and like the Art of Seduction by Robert Green she was looking for parent figure, and Stevie plays the siren giving it to her as daddy. Stevie J u can tell is an abuser and bully, a punk with no real heart I might add. Karlie is messy but trying to do wte to get that deal… Like Jos how far shall go. K.Michelle babe let the past go that voice is beautiful. Rasheedah beautiful sista, but sweetie not everyone is a consumer of chop &screw or hood music. Learn to diversify to cross genres. Now Ari…. U r my fave stay a lady. Erica tho scrappy loves u his loyalty and first love is his momma. If Diamond hadnt made her uh throne seem to b threatened or left afta that month she would still b there. Dude needs to grow up. Ne woman that.gets involved will b dating her. Steve Harvey spoke on that in his movie and book, the momma boy. Get familiar.
