The Transformation Continues, Zoe Saldana As ‘Nina Simone’
Am I the only one that thinks she looks a bit creepy? Creepy in the sense that Zoe Saldana is slowly, but surely beginning to resemble the late, great Nina Simone. This week, we’ve spotted her a few times on set in LA. Check out a few photos.

This is some BS this won’t work what was they thinking this is extremely offensive
Sometimes producers need to just go at it with a new name/face. The lead doesn’t always have to be a known actress. That’s how stars are made! Why keep recycling the same old stars when you can create new ones?
Exactly!
This is ridiculous… I guess Zoe has never listened to a Nina Simone song. Why would you put tie-dye on your skin and cotton balls on your damn head to play a woman who DEMANDED the world see dark, African-featured Black women as beautiful. I don’t care if the child can act, this is a disgrace.
Sad to say, she looks like she is in blackface.
I feel what all of yall are saying and I feel the same, but the producers have made a choice. And unfortunately they chose her(even though she’s great). Let’s go out and support and maybe it will look better once its all finishes? *crosses fingers*
Support who? Why would black women go out and support a white woman who would put Zoe Saldana in blackface. Are you even a black woman? I bet you are not.
No need to be offensive. What if the person above is not black? Does not make any difference if her opinion is what it is and she is entitled to it. Just as you have the right to express yourself, so does she. Let’s just do it in the right way.
Anala is a troll trying to act like she is down.
Let’s support what? FOH I hope nobody goes to see this debacle. It’s disgusting. This isn’t about Zoe (who adamantly proclaims that she isn’t Black) playing a Black woman. She did her thing as the jawn from Star Trek. This is about them using a woman of color to disrespect the legacy of a Black woman who made major sacrifices professionally and financially to promote a positive standard of beauty and self love for dark, African featured Black women. How you gon’ play Nina Simone in black-face with a cheap afro wig?!?! That’s crazy. Bet Denzel who is arguably the best actor ever couldn’t get an audition to play Frank Sinatra! And your shuck and jiving tail saying support?!! Yall new jawns gotta lay off the molly yo.
Why not just use a dark skinned black woman? This is stupid!
That’s actually not true…Zoe indeed considers herself black. Google it. She caught a lot of flack from her Latina “brethren” for calling herself a “Black Woman” in an interview IN the DR.
The look on her child’s face says it all! This is just wrong. even her baby knows it.
I really think the choice for the leading actress was wrong. I will watch it, to see how it goes and criticize their choice later. But I still cannot understand why they have not respected her own family voicing this matter. I agree with Simone, Nina’s daughter that Viola Davis would have been an excellent choice for this biopic.
