Ashanti Defends Herself Against Irv Gotti: ‘I was NEVER Disloyal!’ + Says She’s In Strange Space With Ex-Boyfriend Nelly
Ashanti has stayed busy. The 33-year-old singer and actress joined the cast of Lifetime’s hit show ‘Army Wives’ during its final season. With her fifth album Braveheart delayed until next year, the New York native will release a Christmas EP and appear in the new holiday film ‘Christmas In The City’ (premiering this weekend on Lifetime). Recently, she sat down with Hot 97’s Ebro and Laura Styles, giving more insight on her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Nelly. She also explained her side of the story, defending herself against Irv Gotti’s claims that she was not loyal.
What type of space she’s in, with ex-boyfriend Nelly:
Nelly and I are in the space where I’m kinda like focusing on my career. He’s focusing on what he’s doing. There’s a lot things that happened this year. A lot of things went public more than other things have gone public, you know what I’m saying? And, um I kinda just have to do me. We’re in that space right now. There were things that were said and there were things that were done that probably shouldn’t of been said or done. You know, when people are around each other for a long time…there are feelings and there are things there…people get hurt. Men handle hurt differently than women handle hurt.
If her record, ‘Scarred’ is about her relationship with Nelly:
It’s a very deep record. Um, he put a couple scars on me..not physically, we don’t want to put that out there. We’ve definitely scarred each other in a sense to say. But getting back to the record…it’s a deep record and it’s something that I feel like I’m revealing very much–more than I have on previous records. You know I’m really, really excited.
