[VIDEO] Robin Roberts Tells GMA Why She Decided to Publicly Reveal Girlfriend

Late last month, Good Morning America (GMA) TV anchor, Robin Roberts, publicly acknowledged her girlfriend for the firs time. The news came when the widely popular anchor shared a personal message reflecting on her long road to recovery from a bone marrow transport. In the Facebook message, she thanked her entire staff, family and her long-term girlfriend, Amber for their assistance in helping her life-threatening battle. She wrote:

I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold. On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too. Wishing you a Healthy and Happy New Year. Peace, love, and blessings to all..XO

She’s remained pretty mum about the buzz surrounding her relationship.

Over the holiday break, her niece tied the knot and the proud auntie shared a family photo, which included her girlfriend Amber. Sharing the photo, she included the caption

@Saints win & niece’s wedding great way to end 2 week vacation. See you Monday morn! #WeAreBlessedFamily XO

Monday morning, for the first time, she publicly spoke about their relationship. Sharing the photo with her GMA co-anchor George Stephanopolous, she smiled and seemed to get a bit emotional. She pointed to her girlfriend, noting

Next to me is my girlfriend Amber.

George responded:

You all look so happy there. And Robin, it was no surprise to any of us, but in your end of the year post, you did tell everyone about Amber and about your relationship, and… I hope that was a good experience for you.
