[VIDEO] J.Lo On Staying True To Herself Musically + Releases ‘I Luh Ya Papi’ feat. French Montana
It’s new music time and Jennifer Lopez (affectionately called J.Lo) aims to deliver! Taking a brief break from her American Idol judging duties, the 44-year-old Latina beauty stopped by Power 106 to deliver some new music. She’s working on album number ten and is yanking all types of rappers for the project by the likes of Tyga, French Montana, and Big Sean. Check out a few excerpts on being herself, her new album and more.
The Direction of Her New Album:
You start experimenting and at the end of the day… Like when I went to do this album, I had done my first world tour, I saw fans all over the world for the first time, it was an amazing experience and when I got back I was so ready to get back into the studio and make an album and this was last February so it’s been a year that I’ve been working on this album. You really realize like, ‘I just am who I am and I have to do what I always did’. It’s not about reinventing the wheel. Yes, you want to stay current and you want to stay modern, all that stuff but I got to be me today.
On Wanting To Be Herself, As Opposed to What Others Thinks She Should Do:
I just wanted to be me. My roots are hip hop, my roots are R&B, my roots are pop, my roots are Latin and that always comes out in my records. I always found that when I followed my own heart, that’s when my music was the best that’s when it feels the best to me and this album is like right back to that for me.
On When the New Album is Dropping:
Soon. I always joke because I don’t even know the dates that I have to do things not like when its coming out or anything but I know I have to have it done by March 17th. So a few months from there I feel like it’s coming, so any minute now.
J.Lo also released a new track, titled “I Luh Ya Papi“, featuring French Montana. Check it out, along with the full interview.
