[EXCLUSIVE] D. Woods Opens Up About Leaving Danity Kane + Building Her Brand On the Big Screen
I was never involved in whatever they were planning. I was doing a production called Rebirth, when I found out about it.So I’m deeply engulfed in this production, I just finished wrapping up Blackbird and I’m like, ‘I didn’t know anything about this reunion but if you guys want to work with me with what I have going on,’—and they didn’t seem very cooperative to make it work.
On them not being cooperative of her schedule:
Definitely had a bunch of projects going on and the questions I had to make it work, to be beneficial for both what I had been doing for the past 4 years. When the group was disbanded what was I supposed to do, sit and wait for somebody to give me the green light to live my life and my career, no. I just started up with Woodgrane Entertainment, which is my independent label and I continued doing what I do, what I did for my entire life which was being an artist. One door closes, another one opens. That came up and I was like lets try to make this work, ‘oh you don’t have any of the answers, well call me when you do’ and they didn’t.
On handling it different:
Nope. I don’t think I had any other choice in the matter.
Misconception about her:
That I’ve been a difficult, bitter, and stubborn person. I’ve been so bend over backwards, put myself last, given my last for everybody else.
