The 72nd Golden Globe nominations were announced Thursday with, “Selma” landing 4 nominations. The film — that is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King, Jr. of SCLC and John Lewis of SNCC — received noms for Best Picture, Drama; Best Actor, Drama (David Oyelowo); Best Director (Ava DuVernay); and Best Original Song, Motion Picture (“Glory”).

Ava DuVernay’s nomination is a notable one, as she’s now the first black woman director to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director in the Motion Picture category.
