Jada Pinkett-Smith is politely responding to criticism made by actress Janet Hubert, who once starred alongside Jada’s husband — Will Smith — on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. As previously reported, Janet slammed both Jada and Will for boycotting the Oscar’s. See her video below.

Jada has now responded, telling Entertainment Tonight,

Considering that Alabama had its highest recruitment for the KKK for Martin Luther King’s birthday, I hope that we as African-Americans can find a way to get along and step together. This whole Oscar controversy isn’t really about the Oscars. Really, in my plea to ask all communities and people of color to take back our power is so that we can use it in all sectors of our community, and right now, specifically with African-American people, we have some very serious issues that I think we as a people have to move together on. I’m hoping we can find ways to step together in this instead of finding ways to fight each other. I got love for everybody.

Will Smith Visits "Good Morning America", NYC

Meanwhile Will has confirmed that he too, will not be attending the Oscar’s telling Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts.

My wife’s not going. It would be awkward to show up with Charlize [Theron] … we’ve discussed it. … We’re part of this community. But at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say this is OK.

Aunt Viv is right. This is what she chose to speak on? The Oscars are notoriously unfair to all. (Ok more to people of color) but can we think about this for a moment, Leonardo DiCaprio has NEVER won and he is a better actor and this time his movie was better. This time. Nada should be talking about the people of Michigan who’s water was poisoned!

Why is it that black people are quick to judge one another? But quick to defend whites? Its called slave mentality!! No one knows what Jada and Will are doing about the water crisis in Flint,Mich. And the media wouldn’t report a positive story about Will and Jada. The only thing they want to report is if they’re getting divorced or not.smh

The Oscars is a symbol of accomplishment for those who make their living in the art of entertainment. I believe Jada raises a valid concern, however would she be doing so if “Will” had been nominated. I think currently there are much more serious issues facing African American, than the Oscars. Why won’t you and “Will” put your mouths and your money, behind issues facing us all of the time. I don’t feel empathy for you or “Will” because you socialize and party with this same “White Culture” that didn’t recognize your husband in the first place. You want to be “Black” when it’s convenient. Maybe if you showed your people, not the press, not your Hollywood friends, but everyday people who buy tickets to see and support your husband in the movies, maybe we can support some of your concerns, but right now is not the time. Black boys being killed by white police officers and killing each other and black women dying in jail “mysteriously.” We still have the highest unemployment rate even with degree’s. The list goes on and on.

Aunt Viv surely must have skipped her meds on that day! Jada is to be commended for her “queendom”. Her husband knows she’s a strong and natural star, why else would he not have married Jada??

I love Will and Jada for taking on Goliath because it’s time for a change. They are not saying do away with the oscars, but let’s evaluate and make change.
