Octavia Spencer Snags Role in ‘Hidden Figures’ + Djimon Hounsou Cast In ‘Wayward Pines’

Octavia Spencer has snagged a role in ‘Hidden Figures‘. The Oscar award winning actress will star opposite Taraji P. Henson in the Ted Melfi directed film. According to the Hollywood Reporter,

The Fox 2000 project tells the true story of a group of black women whose brilliance in math helped NASA find its early success with its space missions. Spencer and Henson are playing mathematicians who must deal with racial and gender discrimination.

Fox is planning to release the film Jan. 13, 2017, to coincide with the Martin Luther King holiday weekend. [The Hollywood Reporter]

And in other news, Djimon Hounsou has snagged a role in the series Wayward Pines. Hounsou will star opposite Jason Patric in the M. Night Shyamalan produced thriller. According to Deadline,

Hounsou will play CJ Mitchum, an original resident of Wayward Pines and a historian for the town with extensive knowledge of its complex origins who is the one person who can provide a unique bridge between the current world of Wayward Pines and the previous world that humans inhabited. Based on the world created by author Blake Crouch in his bestselling series of books, the 10-episode second season of Wayward Pines picks up where Season 1 left off, with the town’s residents battling the iron-fisted rule of the First Generation. As events unfold in Wayward Pines, the thoughtful and philosophical Mitchum – a former teacher – makes a decision that will affect the fate of Wayward Pines and every resident living there.
