EXCLUSIVE: Larry Sims Talks "Invite Only Cabo", Decision To Do Reality TV & His Sexuality

Larry Sims On “Invite Only Cabo”, Decision To Do Reality TV & Sexuality

Larry Sims has been projected to be a charismatic, charming, down to Earth, hair stylist from Chicago. After years of hard work and grinding, there is no need to project: Larry Sims is everything people have been talking about. Before the successful 40-year-old was working with A-List celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Queen Latifah, and Lupita Nyong’o – Sims was a dancer in Chicago that worked closely with R. Kelly and a slew of other artists.

Fast forward to today, he’s added reality star to his resume. During a recent interview with theJasmineBRAND.com, Sims dishes on his new reality show Invite Only Cabo, his apprehension about doing reality TV and some of the backlash that he’s received. Check out a few excerpts below.

Why he decided to do reality TV:

It was one of those things where people have for years been reaching out to me, trying to figure out what would be a great fit for me – in terms of reality. I have been very particular of how I’ve crafted my career. And, I think I’ve really built a solid brand for myself that is really respected. I could see why be a potentially good look for production companies or networks to be in business with me. I wanted to do something that didn’t feel forced. I’m not a dramatic person. I’m not ‘ratchet.’ And I wanted to do something productive.

How he got involved with Invite Only Cabo

So, when 495 productions – the curators of Jersey Shore – SallyAnn Salsano, the owner too that company reached out to me and she said to me that she had my picture on her vision board for three years and that she was waiting on the right opportunity and the right project. It was perfect.

His apprehensiveness about reality TV:

The last thing I really wanted to do was give people a gateway to my personal life or their opinions about personal relationships with my friends. I definitely was apprehensive about that. But, I also felt safe because it was Bravo, Creme De La Creme.

If he was portrayed accurately:

I feel like I’ve been myself. There are things that you can’t control because it is only a 42 minute show. There a lot of things that people unfortunately don’t get to see.

What he thinks he received the most backlash on with his show:

The most backlash I’ve received is this fascination with [my] sexuality.

If he opens up about his sexuality on the show:

I’m absolutely going to live all of my truth out loud. I am a 40-year-old man, I don’t have anything to hide. I’m not afraid of who I am, and I’m very proud of who I am.

If there will be a season two:

It’s too soon to know. But we’ve definitely talked about potential ideas if it does come about. Regardless if it’s with Invite Only or another outlet, I definitely know this isn’t my last bit on TV.
