As previously reported, on July 19, 2017, documents leaked online alleging that Usher has been a carrier of the herpes virus since 2009 or 2010 and that he infected a partner with the virus in 2012.

The leaked documents allege that Usher paid the woman’s doctor bills and settled what is alleged to be a civil suit for $1.1 million. On the heels of these allegations, it was also reported that another woman filed a $10 million lawsuit against Usher claiming that he exposed her to the herpes virus without her knowledge or consent, which is a crime in certain states. Later, a story was released alleging that after testing positive for herpes, the woman increased her lawsuit to $20 million. On July 25 Snopes fact checked the claims regarding Usher and found them to be “unproven.” Part of the Snopes fact check reads as follows:

We were also unable to find any civil lawsuit of this kind involving Usher, whose full legal name is Usher Raymond IV, despite a search of the Los Angeles Superior Court’s online database and despite consulting with court staff. We were, however, able to find other (unrelated) cases involving the singer. Furthermore, the purported excerpts do not include a case number, jurisdiction, the names of attorneys, or the name of the presiding judge.

To date, Usher has yet to comment. Also, no documents confirming the lawsuit have been released to the public to confirm whether or not this story is true.
