Gabrielle Union Responds to ‘Being Mary Jane’ Cancellation
Gabrielle Union has issued a response to news that Being Mary Jane, the BET drama series that she stars in, is coming to an end. The 44-year-old actress penned a letter on social media. Check it out below.
To Every Fan of Being Mary Jane,
We have all worked so tirelessly to bring you a show that we could be proud to be a part of. Mary Jane has become my favorite character. We’ve screwed up together, laughed together, evolved together, and raised hell together. I love all her imperfections, and through playing her I became more forgiving of others who are imperfect and on the journey of self discovery and improvement. We watched her struggle with relationships with both men and women, and we watched her finally start to get her shit together. But the journey isn’t over yet. We, as a Being Mary Jane family, cannot wait to bring you this final 2 hour series finale movie that will answer all your questions about each and every character. More than anything, however, we want to thank you with every fiber of our being for faithfully watching the show and supporting our work… from the actors, writers, producers, directors and enormous crew over the years, we are humbled and we remain grateful. Thank you!
As previously reported, the network has ordered a two-hour movie, which will serve as a series finale airing in 2018. The series started with a highly-rated TV movie, which drew 4 million viewers for its July 2013 premiere, jump-starting the series, which premiered the following January.
The decision to go with a movie in lieu of a fifth-season pickup comes three weeks after Being Mary Jane‘s Season 4 finale aired on Sept. 19. Union, who stars as successful TV news anchor Mary Jane Paul, is set to return for the finale.

I loved this show initially. The last season presented a Mary Jane that I no longer recognized, and scripts that seemed to be going no where. It seemed as if the show had run its course. I am still very proud of the show, however, and what was accomplished for Black women there. It has been a long time since we had a show about an educated professional Black woman and family. Big ups to the producers, writers, cast and production crew. Gabrielle did her thing. Peace to all of them.
Scripts going nowhere? You just described half the other shows on television that are not being cancelled.

She is a beautiful woman, and we love it she is not light bright damn near white skin. Maybe she can start a make up line, perfume line or Clothing line if she hasn’t already? Make that money some other way? Hollywood is not kind to over forty women.
