Kehlani: I’m Not Bi-Sexual, I’m Queer!

Kehlani: I’m Not Bi-Sexual, I'm Queer!

Kehlani: I’m Queer. Not Bi, Not Straight.

This week, the Internet went a blaze as Atlantic Records recording artist Kehlani’s sexuality was brought up in question. This time she did not hold back and even took to Twitter to share her thoughts. Let’s just say after clearing the air we won’t be needing to ask about her sexual preference again. She wrote,

Cuz I keep gedding asked. I’m queer. Not bi, not straight. I’m attracted to queer men, non-binary people, intersex people, and Tran’s people. Lil poly pansexual Papi hello good morning. Does that answer your questions?

Adding,

I felt gay always insisted there was still a line drawn as to which “label” of human I was attracted when I really just be walking around thinking ERRYBODY FINE.

Of course fans wasted NO time with more questions and also correcting Kehlani on using the word “queer.” One fan tweeted:

by the way guys “queer” is a slur so str8s don’t say it and the rest of the lgbt community be aware that not everyone reclaims the q slur!”

The Oakland, California native followed up correcting herself and agreeing to never use the word again writing,

Dam* I didn’t know that!! If there’s anyone out there I’ve ever offended with the word, I’m sorry! I’m with the reclaiming of the word but if there’s any1 dat loves me dat isn’t, I sorry I luvvv u.

Also, adding on to her apology for using the “Q” word,

I retracted my queer tweet because i am being corrected about the way in which I listed the gender spectrum and I’m super super sensitive to being offensive especially when I’m only trying to appreciate. Point is, I love love, and that love lies in every gender there is. I always want to be corrected & educated when I am wrong. If I tweet something any form of incorrect, please let me know because I have a massive responsibility by having a platform.

Intention matters yes but being outwardly correct matters too!

Kehlani thinks it’s funny that blogs are saying she’s “coming out”,

Wow I did not I been saying it for ages I just (now realizing I was incorrect with my verbiage) sent a tweet out this morning. So many blogs reporting it as my coming out. Hey anyways Logo! Ur my jam.

So many blogs reported it as my coming out I am dead

Although some fans felt disrespected, others were on the opposite end of it all. One fan wrote,

You weren’t incorrect!!!! It’s perfectly valid to identify as queer, I do and so do many others. It’s a very small portion of people who consider it to still be unreclaimed slur, they shouldn’t affect the way you personally choose to identify.

She responded,

(Repetitive so it’s suuuper clear) my identifying as queer wasn’t the issue, it was the singling out of trans & intersex which sounded transphobic, ignorant and to some, sounding like fetishization. Which is completely wrong, not my intention, and something to say sorry about.
