Mass Shooting At ‘Madden 19’ Game Tournament: 3 Dead, 11 Injured

A video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida turned deadly after a gunman opened fire. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at a EA Sports sanctioned Madden tournament taking place at Chicago Pizza located at The Landing.  24-year-old gamer David “Bread” Katz of Baltimore reportedly opened fire inside of the pizza shop after being eliminated from the tournament earlier in the day.

The incident was partially captured during a live stream on Twitch. In the live stream, gamers Wesley “Joe Rice” Gittens and Eli “Trueboy” Clayton were competing before shots rang out. Just before the video signal was cut, you see a red laser from Katz’s weapon aimed at Clayton’s chest. Several shots can be heard in the video, as well as someone crying out, “What did he shoot me with?” You can watch the video here.

Tournament participants Eli “Trueboy” Clayton, 21, and Taylor ‘SpotMePlzzz’ Robertson, 27, were reported dead at the scene.

Katz, who won the Bills Cup Series in 2017 was said to be staying at a nearby hotel. He was also found dead at the scene.

 

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry issued a statement regarding the shooting.
