Lawyer Connected to R. Kelly Case Arrested for Extortion
It’s never a good sign when your lawyer needs a lawyer. Adult film star, Stormy Daniels‘, former lawyer – Michael Avenatti – was recently arrested in New York after being charged by federal prosecutors in New York and Los Angeles. theJasmineBRAND‘s readers may recognize him as lawyer to the parents of Azriel Clary – one of singer, R. Kelly‘s alleged girlfriends.
A New York district’s charges detail that Michael is a co-conspirator in a $25 million extortion scheme against Nike. He allegedly threatened to release damaging information about the company if Nike didn’t agree to wire millions to his client – an amateur athletic union men’s basketball coach. The charges are as followed:
– one count of conspiracy to transmit interstate communications with intent to extort
– one count of conspiracy to commit extortion – one count of transmission of interstate communications with intent to extort
– one count of extortion.
In California, Michael Avenatti is being charged with bank and wire fraud. He’s being accused of embezzling a client’s money and using fake tax returns.
Michael has been using Twitter and press conferences to crack down on R. Kelly as the Clary family’s lawyer. So much so, that R. Kelly’s lawyer, Steven Greenberg, threw shade at him with this tweet:
“Because I don’t hold grudges I am happy to offer #Avenatti My legal assistance since I hear he needs a good lawyer”

Michael’s former client, Stormy Daniels, also spoke on the incident, citing that his dishonesty led to her dropping him as her representation in her case against Donald Trump.

The Associated Press reports that he could face up to 47 years in prison for his New York charges alone.
Should the Clary family get rid of Michael Avenatti just as Stormy Daniels did?
