Drake Premieres Trailer For ‘Top Boy’ Series

Drake Premieres Trailer For Season 3 Of Popular U.K. Drama Series ‘Top Boy’ [VIDEO]

After almost six years, fans of the hugely popular U.K. crime drama, Top Boy, can finally rejoice, as the series’ third season was just announced, complete with a trailer, by rapper (and huge fan of the series) Drake at a recent concert.

There have been plenty of rumors as well as false starts, but season three of Top Boy is finally coming to us via Netflix and new additional executive producer Drake. While fans online were filled with excitement over the announcement and the subsequent trailer, Drake fans who attended his recent show in London were the first to find out that Top Boy is indeed returning…and with bang!

For those of you who don’t know about Top Boy, here’s a brief rundown to get you informed before you undoubtedly begin bingeing it on Netflix. Set on the fictional Summerhouse housing estate in Hackney, East London, the series follows the lives of a group of people involved in drug dealing and street gangs. Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson star as friends turned rivals, Dushane and Sully, who have opposite approaches to the London drug scene.

Season three will have ten episodes and is described as follows:

“Dushane (Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market. He teams up with Sully (Robinson), his spiritual brother, partner and sometime rival who is also returning to the same streets after his own form of exile – prison – comes to an end. Awaiting them both is Jamie (Ward), the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully.”

Series star Walters expressed his happiness that Netflix decided to move forward with a third season of the show:

“‘Top Boy’ is a raw, real representation of street culture. It explores how these characters came to make the choices they make, and gives the audience a behind-the-scenes look as to what is happening on our streets today. It needs to be talked about and the show doesn’t shy away from giving us the platform to tell our story. We can’t change things if we do not acknowledge it and understand it first. Netflix is the perfect platform for this show, there aren’t many networks who would be brave enough to keep it this real.”

While no specific premiere date has been announced, Top Boy is set to drop season three this fall. This is also Drake’s second high-profile TV project, as he is also executive producing the upcoming HBO drama series Euphoria, starring Zendaya and Algee Smith.
