History Maker! BET Debuts KeKe Palmer’s Talk Show, ‘Just Keke’

KeKe Palmer’s celebrity crush, visits her on the set of new show, Just Keke.

 Monday (June 30th), Telepictures on BET premiered “Just Keke,” the new one-hour daily talk show hosted by actress, singer and activist Keke Palmer.

The show will air Monday through Friday during its initial four-week run. Jasmine BRAND visited the taping of the first show to get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look. Check out some of our behind-the-scenes photos and footage.

A few quick personal observations about the show:

1. Age appropriate. One of the cool things about the show is that it seems to be age appropriate. KeKe is 20, although she’s been in the industry for awhile, and her audience and topics don’t seem OVERLY mature. I didn’t get a sense that she was attempting to be anything other than who or what she is.

2. Fresh. The overall vibe of the show reminds me of a former BET show called Teen Summit. The show ended after 11 seasons, but dealt with the everyday issues teenagers dealt with and attempted to bring them into a positive, uplifting light, while motivate the teen viewers. Just KeKe’s studio has a set-up different than traditional talk shows. No chairs facing the stage, but comfy couches, benches, sofas, etc.

3. Historical. If the show is green-lit, KeKe will be the youngest talk show host in TV history. That fact, coupled with the fact that she’s African American is even more notable. 

4. Personality. KeKe seems to be natural in front of the camera. Initially, I was a little apprehensive with the thought of an actress being able to pull something of this magnitude off. However, she does this effortlessly. She’s confident, entertaining and humble. In between segments, Keke would joke with the audience, tell us stories and dance around the studio. One of the more memorable moments of my visit was one of KeKe’s celebrity crushes, Michael Ealy, surprising her! She d*mn near had a heart-attack telling him that if his marriage ever ended, she was available — Ha!

The premiere week of “Just Keke” will feature an exclusive interview with Chris Brown’s girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, who will discuss her relationship with the recording artist who was recently released from jail. “Just Keke” will target millennials by covering social issues, pop culture, fashion, relationships and celebrity interviews.
