Eddie Murphy Reportedly Tried To Stop Whitney Houston From Marrying Bobby Brown ‘He Called To Say She Made A Mistake’

It’s no secret there were quite a few people who were against Whitney Houston’s union to Bobby Brown. But who knew Eddie Murphy was one of them?

According to the lat singer’s best friend Robyn Crawford, Eddie Murphy tried to stop Whitney Houston from becoming Mrs. Bobby Brown.

Crawford revealed in her memoir, A Song For You: My Life With Whitney Houston, that the “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” singer was in love with Murphy in the late 80s. Crawford claimed that even though Brown was the one to pursue Houston, the singer wanted a relationship with Murphy and “lost herself” in it all.

Crawford wrote,

“[Whitney] was more interested in Eddie Murphy, but he was elusive.”

She recalled a time when Murphy was supposed to come to Houston’s mansion in New Jersey for dinner.

“I caught a glimpse of Whitney. She was wearing a black dress and low-heeled slingbacks. For a moment, I thought ‘Boy, I wish she was doing that for me.'”

Unfortunately for Houston, Murphy 

“never showed up that night.”

So how did he go from ghosting her to trying to stop her wedding?

Crawford recalled how he called her on her wedding day, July 18, 1992, in what was said to be his last effort to stop Houston from going through with it.

“[That day] Eddie Murphy called to say she was making a mistake, but she pressed ahead.”

Houston and Brown went on to divorce in 2007, after welcoming daughter Bobbi Kristina, starring in their own reality show, and becoming one of the most infamous couples in history.

Houston tragically passed away on Feb. 11, 2012. Bobbi Kristina also died on July 26, 2015.

As for Murphy, he went on to wed Nicole Murphy in 1992. They divorced in 2006.
