The Rock Reveals His Father’s Cause Of Death Was A Massive Heart Attack: He Went Quick, That’s My Old Man, He Was Always Quick
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has opened up about his father’s cause of death.
It was previously reported that wrestling Hall Of Famer Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson passed away at 75-years-old.
The Rock shared a video on Instagram Sunday (Jan. 19), to thank fans for their support as he navigates through the process.
“A lot of you guys wanted to know what happened to my dad. He had not been feeling well and been battling a cold and infection. On Tuesday, he had what’s called a deep vein thrombosis, which is essentially a blood clot in the leg. It was a big old blood clot that broke free, traveled up his body and went right to his lung and clotted his lung and he died very quickly from a massive heart attack. Just like that.”
“According to the medical examiner who performed the autopsy, it was clear and very evident of what happened.”
He then revealed that it was a quick passing, which The Rock said brought him a level of peace.
“My question was, was he in pain? Did he go quick? Was it drawn out? And he said he went fast, he went quick. That’s my old man. He was always quick. But that did give me great comfort knowing that it wasn’t prolonged. The reason it gave me great comfort, even though I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to my old man that one last time, is that he had been in a lot of pain for a very, very long time.”
He went on to say that pain is what comes with life of being a professional wrestler.
That’s the life of a pro wrestler, especially at that age and coming from out of that era, from the 60s, 70s and 80s. You know, he had banged his body around and he had always told me, a day without pain is like a day without sunshine. He would tell me that when I was 10…that’s a lot of years of being in pain. My old man, there’s no pain, which makes me happy that he’s not in pain anymore.”
The Rock first broke his silence about Rocky Johnson’s passing shortly after it was announced.

I love you. You broke color barriers, became a ring legend and trail blazed your way thru this world. I was the boy sitting in the seats, watching and adoring you, my hero from afar. The boy you raised to always be proud of our cultures and proud of who and what I am. The boy you raised with the toughest of love. The intense work. The hard hand. The adoring boy who wanted to know only your best qualities. Who then grew to become a man realizing you had other deeply complicated sides that needed to be held and understood. Son to father. Man to man. That’s when my adoration turned to respect. And my empathy turned to gratitude. Grateful that you gave me life. Grateful you gave me life’s invaluable lessons. Dad, I wish I had one more shot to tell you, I love you, before you crossed over to the other side. But you were ripped away from me so fast without warning. Gone in an instant and no coming back. Im in pain. But we both know it’s just pain and it’ll pass. Now I’ll carry your mana and work ethic with me, as it’s time to move on because I have my family to feed and work to accomplish. Finally, I want you to rest your trailblazing soul, Soulman. Pain free, regret free, satisfied and at ease. You lived a very full, very hard, barrier breaking life and left it all in the ring. I love you dad and I’ll always be your proud and grateful son. Go rest high. #ripsoulman #rockyjohnson ?
Let’s continue to pray for The Rock and his family during this difficult time!
