Kim Kardashian Surprises LaLa Anthony W/ A SKIMS Billboard In NYC

Kim Kardashian West surprised her longtime friend La La Anthony with a billboard featuring her in none other than New York City.

LaLa Anthony shared the billboard that showed her wearing Kim Kardashian West’s shapewear SKIMS line, which celebrates its one-year anniversary this month.

LaLa Anthony captioned the photo:

“SURPRISE…I’m SOOO EXCITED to be a part of @SKIMS 1 year anniversary campaign along with some amazing women!!!”

She continued:

“I was absolutely shocked when @kimkardashian SURPRISED me with a billboard of myself in New York City….(swipe to see…) I love you so much Kimmie Can’t wait for everyone to see these pics Stay tuned, we have more coming.”

Kim Kardashian West launched SKIMS last September. The solution-wear line reportedly sold well over $2 million of merchandise just minutes after going live.

SKIMS was originally named “Kimono” but after she trademarked and announced the name in June of 2019, Kim Kardashian West started to receive backlash and heavy accusations of cultural appropriation of the Japanese culture.

On Aug. 25th, 2019, Kim Kardashian West released a statement and name change in response to the criticism.

“Filing a trademark is a source identifier that will allow me to use the word for my shapewear and intimates line but does not preclude or restrict anyone, in this instance, from making kimonos or using the word kimono in reference to the traditional garment. I understand and have a deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture.”

She later announced the new name on Twitter.

“My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me – I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions, and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name. After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of SKIMS Solutionwear™ coming September 10. I love the idea that the pieces will be the closest thing to someone’s skin, skimming with amazingly soft and supportive fabrics which accentuate the best parts of our bodies”
