Teenage Social Media Star Faces Backlash For Seemingly Promoting Ashanti’s ‘Foolish’ As Her Own Song

A young social media star named Danielle Cohn has been facing backlash since releasing a cover song of Ashanti’s 2002 “Foolish” on her Tik Tok page.

She shared a video of herself dancing to the hit song and added,

“Make a TikTok to my new song…”

Social media users noticed that the song was missing the disclaimer that this version of “Foolish” was in fact, not Danielle Cohn’s song to begin with.  In addition, the young star created merchandise in an attempt to sell it, all without giving the original artist their due credit.

After facing strong backlash from Ashanti fans online, Danielle tweeted:

“Do people not understand what a cover is [shrug Emoji]”

Listen to the original song below.

You can view Danielle’s version of “Foolish” below. (The description has now been updated as a “cover”.)

Danielle also took to her Instagram live Monday (Sep. 7), to address the ordeal, explaining that she figured everyone knew it was a cover song.

Ashanti has not yet made any public remarks about her feelings towards the cover song.

Meanwhile, we may be hearing “Foolish” and other hit songs from the 2000s from Ashanti as she recently seemed to have accepted the Verzuz battle challenge from fellow fan favorite, Keyshia Cole.

During a Verzuz challenge between rappers DMX and Snoop Dogg, Keyshia Cole was seen in the comments, shouting out Ashanti, seemingly challenging her.

Ashanti didn’t hold back though.  She came right back with what fans took as an acceptance to the challenge.
