Transgender Actress Angelica Ross Says She Had A Traumatizing Experience On “CLAWS” Set: I Was Referred To As ‘He’ & Had To Drop My Underwear
Actress and activist Angelica Ross is speaking out regarding what she deemed a “traumatizing” experience while on the set of the hit TNT series “CLAWS”. In a new interview, Angelica Ross shared that her experience on the show was not as supportive as her stint on FX’s Pose, where she played the role of the feisty and witty Candy Ferocity.
She said that on the “CLAWS” set, she was misgendered:
The trauma I experienced on that set is a drastic difference from the support that I felt on the set of Pose. Someone referred to me as ‘he.’
Angelica Ross also said that some things suddenly switched up regarding a scene that was slated to be taped for the show. She said:
I knew the scene was coming and we had talked about it. I get to set and I’m now being asked to drop my underwear and wear a modesty garment—it’s basically this tape that goes from your front to your back.
Angelica Ross indicated that this particular request was significantly difficult to do because she is transgender. She explained:
I was supposed to do a scene where I’m hovered over some guy and then flip off of him. It was one of the hardest things for me to do because I was pre-op. These garments aren’t made for trans people.
On her official Twitter, Angelica shared some of the text of her interview saying:
I’ve never spoken publicly about my time on the show CLAWS until this interview with @crissles & @SELFmagazine. It was extremely traumatizing, but taught me a few valuable lessons.

Angelica also said of the unfortunate incident that she was never provided with the standard documentation that indicated she was okay with what she had been asked to do:
I did not receive a nudity rider in advance nor was there a general nudity rider to my knowledge. There were so many things that happened on that set where I just did not feel affirmed.
Reportedly, Warner Brothers Television has not provided any further details but did say that a scene similar to the one Angelica described was filmed but it was never aired.
