Mo’Nique Allegedly Approached A Black Woman For Wearing A Bonnet In Public Following Her Controversial Comments On Respectability Politics
Mo’Nique wasn’t playing when she said she was going to be confronting black women for wearing bonnets outside of their homes. As previously reported, actress/comedian Mo’Nique made headlines last month when she criticized black women for wearing bonnets at the airport and other public places. During the lengthy viral video, she asked,
“When did we lose pride in representing ourselves?”
Towards the end of the video, the Academy-Award-winning actress warned fans that if she catches them in public looking like “what the f*ck” she’s going to tap them and say,
“Hey baby girl, show you what you’re worth.”
“Cause if you look like you don’t give a d*mn, how are you going to be treated?”

The 53-year-old entertainer seemingly isn’t backing down from her stance on bonnets. A video recently surfaced online of Mo’Nique chatting with some fans she met while climbing Stone Mountain. One of the people she was seen talking with was a black woman wearing a bonnet. A Twitter user shared a screenshot of a text she received in a groupchat of the incident. The text read,
“My dad seen Monique at Stone Mountain today and she was talking to some girl with a bonnet on.”

The Twitter user added,
“And she asked her to do the bonnet dance, whatever that is”

It’s not clear what Mo’Nique said exactly to the unnamed woman in the bonnet but, according to the Twitter user, her sister is the one who saw the entire interaction go down.
