Sherri Shepherd Cites Son as Motivation Behind Healthy Lifestyle Choice: ‘Who are you bodyguarding?’
Sherri Shepherd is committed to her journey, both on and off the screen.
The actress and TV personality took to Instagram on Thursday, March 24 to celebrate herself after conquering a 5 a.m. workout, a move she “struggled” to make. Sherri Shepherd also cited her 16-year-old son Jeffrey Jr. as her motivation, recalling a time when he asked her who would be his bodyguard if she died. In her Instagram caption, she said,
“Struggled with getting up this morning at 5am to workout. But I just kept thinking of when my son asked me ‘Mommy if you die who is going to be my bodyguard?’ This question is my why for pushing myself to eat healthy and keep my heart pumping.”
Sherri Shepherd continued by encouraging people to join a challenge that allows them to earn money if they win. She said,
“Who are the people in your life you are bodyguarding? Join me in the @healthywage challenge to win $$$ for losing weight … for more info go to healthywage.com/sherrishepherd #healthywage #sherrishepherd #weightloss #teamhealthy #ifeelgood”
According to the website, the Healthy Wage challenge’s rules include getting your weight verified and completing an unofficial weigh in every day for two weeks. The winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize.
Shepherd has previously shared her determination to take her health seriously after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2007. She also opened up about her health and wellness journey in 2021, expressing her determination to lose weight after seeing so many people impacted by the pandemic, including herself. She referenced her son as her motivation back then as well. She said,
“My arms feel like rubber, my legs feel like rubber, I want to cry, but I am determined to make it through this class, cause you gotta remember your ‘why.’ Why are you doing this? Why are you trying to lose weight?”
In addition to participating in the Healthy Wage challenge back then, Shepherd said she upped her workouts, switched up her diet, went back on a keto diet and started intermittent fasting. She’s managed to lose more than 20 pounds since the start of her journey.
