Former NBA Star Vince Carter’s Home Burglarized While Wife & Kids Were Inside, Nearly $100K Stolen From The Atlanta Property
Father’s day in Vince Carter’s home took a left turn.
On Sunday night (June 19) police responded to a burglary call at former NBA star Vince Carter’s Atlanta home. Sondi Carter, Vince Carter’s wife, told authorities that she was in bed with her twin sons when she heard “loud noises” coming from the front of their home at 11:50 p.m.
According to the incident report, while the home was being burglarized, Sondi Carter and her children hid in a closet. Sondi Carter also texted her neighborhood patrol officer who showed up before Atlanta police. Upon arrival, he found a black male suspect running away from the home wearing all black clothing and a mask. The suspect was picked up by a black SUV that was able to shake off the neighborhood patrol officer.
The incident report states:
“Ms. Carter stated that she took her sons and hid in their bedroom closet as she heard the unknown suspects gain entry into her home. Ms. Carter stated she could hear the unknown suspects come upstairs and rummage through their belongings in different rooms while she hid.”
The burglars entered the residence by way of a first-level window that was found “completely broken in.” Officers also discovered the gate at the top of the stairs was also “broken off of its hinges” and multiple rooms in the home were left in shambles.
Nearly $100,000 in cash was stolen from the Carter’s home. $16,000 worth of $100 bills and two guns, one belonging to Carter and the next allegedly owned by a suspect, were recovered outside of the 10,000-square-foot home. Carter, 45, said the cash,
“was just a small portion of over $100,000 that was missing from a brown bag he had in the master bedroom closet.”
Sondi turned over surveillance footage on the property to authorities. No one in the home was harmed during the incident.
