Irv Gotti Says Ashanti’s Hit Single ‘Happy’ Was Made After They Were Sexually Intimate: That Record Came About Because Of Our Energy

Murder Inc. co-founder Irv Gotti is sharing more stories about his previous relationship with R&B singer Ashanti.

During his recently released Drink Champs interview, Irv Gotti, born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., 52, shared how an intimate moment created a hit single. According to the decorated producer, Ashanti’s 2002 chart-topping record “Happy” was inspired after the fellow musicians had a love-making session.

Speaking on the songs creation, Gotti stated:

“Let me explain the relationship and how it worked, and how it worked to our advantage….We just finished sleeping together, or whatever, I’m taking a shower. I’m in the shower, you know, a n-gga be creative after [sex] … I think of the whole track in the shower.”

Stating that he immediately called producer Chink Santana to start laying down the beat for the song before turning to Ashanti, 41, for the lyrics, he continued:

“Okay, now it’s time for you to write. Yo, I want the sh*t to be a feel-good joint, like summertime,”

Singing the renowned “I’m so, happy, baby” lyrics, he concluded:

“The energy, that record came about ’cause of our energy.”

After the show’s host rapper N.O.R.E. asks Gotti if he misses the songstress’ energy, he quickly rebutted:

“Not anymore”

Rumors that Ashanti and Gotti were involved romantically began to swirl as Ashanti’s success ascended with Murder Inc. Though Gotti was still legally married to his wife at the time, he also discusses in the interview being heartbroken after finding out Ashanti had moved on with Nelly. He stated:

“At the time it happens, any man….is hurt. The chick you, f*cking are in love with, is with this n*gga.”

Meanwhile, Ashanti is remaining booked and busy. The “Rain On Me” singer recently joined her ex Nelly on stage for a surprise performance. Though the two are seemingly single, Ashanti has previously stated she has no plans to rekindle things with her former boo who she dated on and off for more than a decade.

Gotti is currently on a press tour for Murder Inc.’s upcoming documentary special airing on B.E.T. this coming Tuesday, August 9th.
