Mystikal Requests Bond In Rape Case, Hires Forensics Experts
Rapper Mystikal (born Michael Tyler) is asking a judge to grant him a bond while he awaits trial for his rape case.
According to reports, Mystikal’s attorneys presented several motions Monday (Oct.17), including a request to reinstate the bond. The multi-platinum-selling artist – who has a previous conviction for sexual assault – has remained in jail since he was arrested for sexual assault in July.
Mystikal’s attorney Joel Pearce also recruited a forensics firm to help prepare a defense for his client.
Pearce had this to say in a recent press release:
“Some of the most important data in this case is trapped in a mobile phone and social media providers.. I immediately contacted Garrett Discovery to formulate a plan to capture the data so that justice can be served.”

Garrett Discovery’s CEO Andrew Garrett proclaimed his team will examine digital evidence to determine the facts in Mystikal’s rape case. Garrett said:
“Law enforcement and prosecutors have the ability to search homes, arrest and jail those whom they feel are guilty. This comes with a great responsibility, but unfortunately, with high caseloads and mounting pressure, we often see cases that are not well developed or have come to the wrong conclusion. Attorney Pearce’s relentless pursuit of the truth will leave no stone unturned.”
As previously reported, Mystikal was indicted on a charge of first-degree rape stemming from an alleged incident in which he sexually assaulted and held a woman against her will at his Baton Rouge-area home in late July. He also faces nine additional criminal counts including criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, robbery, and several drug-related offenses.
The victim claims she went to Mystikal’s home because she was owed money. When she arrived, she claims the rapper accused her of stealing cash before he beat and choked her. She also alleges that he took her keys and phone so she couldn’t leave. Once the sexual assault was over, Mystikal allegedly let the woman leave after he forced her to send him money via CashApp.
Mystikal’s attorneys are now claiming that the woman misrepresented her relationship with the rapper when talking with investigators. His attorneys also presented documents showing that he previously requested a protective order against his accuser more than 20 years ago.
His July arrest marks the third time the musician was detained on a rape charge in the past 20 years. Mystikal served a six-year prison sentence back in 2004 for allegedly raping a hairstylist. He was accused of sexual assault again back in 2016 and was detained for 18 months before being released due to lack of evidence.
Reportedly, a judge is expected to consider Mystikal’s request for the bond at his next court hearing, scheduled for Nov. 21.
