Whoopi Goldberg Trends As She Is The Latest Celebrity To Announce They’re Leaving Twitter Following Elon Musk’s Takeover: This Place Is A Mess
Whoopi Goldberg is joining the growing list of celebrities who are leaving Twitter in the wake of Elon Musk’s takeover!
The View co-host made the announcement on her ABC show Monday (Nov. 7). Whoopi Goldberg, 66, said,
“It’s been a little over a week since Elon Musk took over Twitter and this place is a mess. I’m getting off today because I just feel like it’s so messy, and I’m tired of now having certain kinds of attitudes blocked now getting back on. So I’m gonna get out, and if it settles down enough and I feel more comfortable maybe I’ll come back. But as of tonight, I’m done with Twitter.”

Goldberg also listed all the shocking announcements Elon Musk has made since completing his takeover of the social media platform — such as the new $8 blue checkmark program and staff firings and re-hirings. She also cited Twitter suspending Kathy Griffin’s account for simply impersonating Musk.

Whoopi Goldberg added:
“People keep saying it’s free speech, but all speech is not free speech. Some speech is not OK free speech. So everybody has to agree on that, but if people keep saying ‘You hurt my free speech’ it’s going to be a problem. You know what? This is our problem. But it ain’t my problem today because I’m out.”

As no surprise, social media had an opinion about the EGOT winner joining the list of celebrities leaving Twitter. Some people understood Goldberg’s reasons for leaving the social media app, while others could care less about her departure. One user wrote:
“I have never seen a Tweet by Whoopi Goldberg. I honestly didn’t know she had an account here.”
While another person had a different sentiment.
“@Twitter has been awful lately because of the Left’s angry and emotional response to @ElonMusk‘s purchase and the possibility of less censorship. I don’t blame @WhoopiGoldberg for wanting to take a break.”

Whoopi Goldberg isn’t the only celebrity to call out Elon Musk and the changes he has made to Twitter. TV showrunner and prolific producer Shonda Rhimes, singer Toni Braxton, model Gigi Hadid and NBA star Lebron James have all blasted the businessman.
In a recent tweet, the Los Angeles Lakers star stated in essence how Twitter has become the wild wild west when it comes to racist rhetoric since Elon Musk has taken over.
“I don’t’ know Elon Musk and, tbh, I could care less who owns twitter. But I will say that if this is true, I hope he and his people take this very seriously because this is scary AF. So many d*mn unfit people saying hate speech is free speech.”

The spike in hate speech appears to have been sparked by Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter. When the deal was finalized, the billionaire promised to make the platform “more open to a wider range of speech.” Despite not knowing what exactly the Tesla and SpaceX CEO had in mind, hate groups seemingly took the opportunity to weaponize the N-word.
Elon Musk hasn’t directly commented on the surge of hate speech, but he retweeted Twitter’s Head of Site Integrity Yoel Roth’s response to Lebron James.
“Nearly all of these accounts are inauthentic. We’ve taken action to ban the users involved in this trolling campaign — and are going to continue working to address this in the days to come to make Twitter safe and welcoming for everyone.”
