RuPaul Slams Tennessee Bill Banning Drag Shows, Claims It’s A ‘Classic Distraction Technique’ To Pull Focus Away From ‘Real Issues’
RuPaul is standing up for the drag queens!
According to reports, on Wednesday (Mar. 8) RuPaul, real name RuPaul Andre Charles, took to social media to call out Republican Governor Bill Lee for signing a bill that prevents “adult cabaret performances” in the state of Tennessee, including shows that have “male or female impersonators.”
RuPaul, 62, referred to the ongoing legislation as a “classic distraction technique” from politicians who want to ignore the “real issues” voters are asking them to take care of. The entertainer said:
“Hey, look over there! A classic distraction technique, distracting us away from the real issues that they were voted into office to focus on: jobs, healthcare, keeping our children safe from harm at their own school.”
RuPaul continued:
“But we know that bullies are incompetent at solving real issues.”

The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” host added:
“They look for easy targets so they can give the impression of being effective; they think our love, our light, our laughter and our joy are signs of weakness – but they’re wrong, because that is our strength.”
The famed model made it clear that he heavily supports the drag community, claiming that drag queens are “the Marines of the queer movement.” RuPaul also encouraged his fans to ignore fabricated stories from the press and stand up for what they believe in on election day.
“Don’t get it twisted and don’t be distracted. Register to vote so we can get these stunt queens out of office and put some smart people with real solutions into government. And by the way, a social media post has never been as powerful as a registered vote.”

As you may know, last week the controversial bill was signed and it prohibits drag shows to be performed anywhere “the adult cabaret performance could be viewed by a person who is not an adult.”
Governor Bill Lee’s press secretary said:
“The bill specifically protects children from obscene, sexualized entertainment, and any attempt to conflate this serious issue with lighthearted school traditions is dishonest and disrespectful to Tennessee families.”
