Lil Wayne And Jill Scott To Co-Headline 2024 Roots Picnic: Victoria Monet, Nas, Andre 3000 & More To Perform

Lil Wayne is hitting the stage to perform some of his greatest hits this summer.

2024 Roots Picnic announced that the Grammy-winning rapper will headline its annual music festival and perform with The Roots. Of course, there’s no performance with special guests. PJ Morton and Trombone Shorty are also joining the lineup. 

Philadelphia native and soul music icon Jill Scott will co-headline the festival.

Some other noteworthy musical artists set to hit the stage are hip-hop icons Andre 3000NasMethod Man, and Redman. Legendary R&B producer and singer Babyface, singer Victoria Monet, rapper Sexyy Red, singer and actress Fantasia, hip-hop star Gunna, and many more will also be performing.

With this kind of diverse lineup this year, fans on Instagram and “X,” formerly known as Twitter, appear excited:

The event takes place between June 1 and June 2 in the city of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, at The Mann in Fairmount Park.

If you didn’t know, the first-ever Roots Picnic went down in 2008 with well-received sets from Gnarls BarkleySantigoldDiploDJ Jazzy Jeff, and The Cool Kids as the main acts. The Roots and Shawn Gee founded the anticipated festival. 

In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic forced organizers to shift to a virtual experience. The Roots Picnic returned to complete form at Philadelphia’s The Mann Center in 2022.

In an interview with Consequence, rapper and singer Black Thought said,

“The Roots Picnic is the ultimate homecoming for us.”

He went on to say,

“It’s an amazing and sentimental feeling. We’re Philadelphians first and foremost. We’re ambassadors of the arts, so with that said, the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia is as iconic as the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s an iconic historic landmark and the perfect backdrop for us during that homecoming.”
