Savannah Guthrie Weighs In On Kelly Rowland Walking Off ‘Today’ Show: ‘She Was Lovely, I Had No Idea, No Inkling That Anything Was Amiss’
Savannah Guthrie is speaking out.
The Today co-anchor said she had no idea Kelly Rowland was about to walk off the set after she interviewed the ‘Motivation’ singer.
Kelly Rowland appeared on Today February 15 to promote her latest film, Tyler Perry‘s Mea Culpa. During Kelly Rowland’s interview portion with Savannah Guthrie, she was asked about Beyoncé’s forthcoming country album.
The Merry Liddle Christmas star was also slated to guest co-host Today with Hoda & Jenna alongside Hoda Kotb, filling in for Jenna Bush Hager.
Shortly after her sit-down with Savannah Guthrie, Rowland reportedly walked off the set and Rita Ora filled in as the guest co-host at the last minute. Speculation swirled that Rowland left because her dressing room was not up to par, and others claimed she was upset about the line of questioning related to Beyoncé as she wanted to focus on her new movie.
Either way, Guthrie revealed she didn’t see the exit coming. She said that Rowland
“was lovely. I had no idea, no inkling that anything was amiss.”
Guthrie continued,
“She was as sweet, and kind and professional as she ever was. I don’t know what happened behind the scenes.”
Reportedly, Rowland was upset about the accommodations for her dressing room.
A source close to the incident previously shared,
“Kelly walked out because she and her team didn’t like her dressing room.”

She reportedly asked for a better green room upstairs, however, that was already occupied by Jennifer Lopez, who was there to promote her new album This Is Me… Now and the accompanying Prime Video documentary.
Hoda Kotb has since reacted to the ordeal and offered Rowland to come back, saying she’d even share her dressing room with the Destiny’s Child songstress. Hoda Kotb said on Today this week:
“I just wanna say this, I have great love and admiration for Kelly Rowland. I adore her. And I want her to come back on our show, and I want her to host again. She can share my dressing room — we’ll be in it together!”

Asked about the drama while on Chicago’s WGN News on Wednesday, February 21, Rowland refused to add fuel to the fire.
“No, because I’m so excited and delighted to be here to talk about the movie and nothing else. I love the ‘Today’ show, love Hoda and that is it.”
Mea Culpa is now streaming on Netflix.
