Update #2 (April 16, 2024): Kris Jenner’s sister’s cause of death has been revealed.

Karen Houghton’s death certificate, obtained by TMZ, revealed that she died of cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac arrhythmia. Type 2 diabetes was listed as a secondary cause.

Houghton, who will be cremated, also had bipolar disorder.

Update #1 (March 22, 2204): Kim Kardashian is remembering her late aunt, Karen Houghton, who suddenly passed away earlier this week.

The Kardashians star, 43, shared vintage photos of her, Karen Houghton, and their family over the years via Instagram Thursday (March 21). She kept the caption simple with,

“I love you so much auntie Karen.”

Karen Houghton’s daughter Natalie Zettel also paid tribute on social media shortly after her death, expressing shock over her death in an Instagram post. She began,

“Dear Mommy, I can’t believe your gone. This doesn’t even feel real. I keep hoping that I will get to hug you or kiss you or hear your voice one last time.”

She continued,

“You were my best friend, my everything. The best mother a daughter could ever ask for and I’m so grateful to have had a mother like you. You were the most kind, sweet, loving, giving, and caring soul. You had the biggest heart.”

Unsure of what the future looks like, Natalie Zettel wrote,

“And I don’t know how to go on without you. It all happened so quick & I wasn’t ready for you to go. An angel ? was sent to heaven on March 18th, 2024. I love you mommy and you will forever be missed. ??”

Original Story (March 19, 2024): Kris Jenner is mourning the sudden death of her sister, Karen Houghton. 

In a heartbreaking post shared on Instagram Tuesday (March 19), The Kardashians star, 68, announced that Karen Houghton “unexpectedly” died on Monday (March 18). She was 65.

Kris Jenner paid tribute to her late sister on the social media app, posting photos of them and their family over the years. She began in the caption,

“It is with the heaviest heart and deepest sadness that I share that my sister Karen passed away yesterday unexpectedly.”

Adding:

“My heart aches for my mom MJ and my niece Natalie and I pray that God guides us all through this difficult time.”

She went on to remember Karen Houghton as “beautiful inside and out,” and praised her for being

“the sweetest, kindest, the most sensitive and vulnerable and so so funny. She always felt grateful and thankful for her life and treasured her family and friends and especially her beautiful daughter.”

Kris Jenner continued,

“She holds such a huge part of my heart and I cherish every single memory we have together.”

She left fans with a final note, writing,

“Karen’s passing is a reminder that life is so short and precious and tomorrow is never promised. We must tell those we cherish how much we love them. I love you my beautiful sister.”

In the comment section, actress and longtime family friend Khadijah Haqq shared condolences and wrote,

“So sorry Mom for your loss. ?? forever in our hearts”

As of publication Tuesday afternoon, Kylie Jenner is the only Kar-Jenner sibling who has publicly spoken out about the loss. She simply shared a throwback photo of Kris and Karen Houghton posing together.

Karen Houghton’s cause of death is unclear, but police sources told TMZ that she died in San Marcos, California, and her death was reported to San Diego County. Officials are citing natural causes in the meantime.

Kris is said to be very concerned for her niece and mother, MJ, as this is the first time she’s experienced losing a child.

The sisters suffered a hiccup back in 2014, when Karen aired her grievances with Kris, alleging that she had changed since becoming famous. Two years later, Karen famously had a facelift in an attempt to look more like her older sister. The two appeared to bury their issues in 2019 when they spent Christmas with MJ and their daughters, Kylie Jenner and Natalie Zettel.
