Gospel Artist Mandisa Dies: Grammy Award Winner & ‘American Idol’ Finalist Was 47 [CONDOLENCES]

Update (April 24, 2024): More details have surfaced about the death of beloved Christian artist Mandisa.

Earlier this week, the Franklin Police Department issued an update on X (formerly Twitter), writing,

“The Franklin Police Department is continuing to investigate the death of a woman found inside a Beamon Dr. residence last Thursday evening.”

It continued,

“Over the weekend, a medical examiner identified the deceased individual as Mandisa Hundley, 47. At this time, there is no indication the death was the result of suspicious or criminal activity.”

Authorities concluded by sending love to Mandisa’s close friends and family.

Original Story (April 19, 2024): Prayers up for the family and loves ones of gospel singer Mandisa.

Reps for the songstress confirmed that she was sadly found deceased in her Nashville home yesterday (Thursday, April 18th) at the age of 47.

In a statement about her passing, Mandisa’s PR team wrote:

“We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased. At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

The singer, full name Mandisa Lynn Hundley, began her career as a member of the Fisk Jubilee Singers. During season 5 of American Idol the California native rose to fame after reaching the top 10 contestants and placing 9th overall.  The achievement catapulted Mandisa into the limelight, launching her start as a mainstream contemporary Christian recording artist.

Throughout her career, Mandisa achieved notable milestones, including winning a Grammy award for best Christian contemporary album for her 2013 project Overcomer. Additionally, the songstress amassed millions of views on YouTube and collaborated with some of Gospel music’s biggest names such as Kirk Franklin and Toby Mac.

Presently there has not been much information shared about the nature of Mandisa’s passing. The musician had been open and candid about her struggles with depression in the past. Mandisa talked extensively about her mental health struggles in her novel “Out Of The Dark” released in 2022.
