Nicki Minaj Trolled For Holding Moment Of Silence For ‘Friend’ Princess Diana During UK Concert: ’14 When She Died & Never Met Her’

What’s your definition of a “friend”?

Superstar Nicki Minaj paid tribute to the late Princess of Wales, Princess Diana, who tragically passed away in 1997, during a touching moment at her Pink Friday 2 Tour stop in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Captured in a fan video from the concert at Resorts World Arena, the 41-year-old rapper engaged with the crowd, asking concertgoers where they were from. When one fan mentioned they were from Wales, Nicki Minaj, with a fake British accent, responded,

“Wales always reminds me of a dear friend of mine. Well, she’s not here anymore, but the Princess of Wales.”

Presumably talking about Princess Diana, this moment prompted Nicki Minaj to request a moment of silence in her memory.

The now-viral clip prompted some social media users to praise the heartfelt moment. However, it also sparked questions about Minaj’s use of the term “friend.” Others even speculated that this could be shade toward rapper Ice Spice. The two collaborated on a song titled “Princess Diana,” and recently leaked text messages from Ice Spice’s former best friend, Baby Storme, allegedly revealed Ice Spice referring to Nicki Minaj as “delusional” and “ungrateful.”

Another X user wrote,

“Is this Ice spice shade…”

This hasn’t been the only standout moment from Nicki’s tour. She was detained by Amsterdam police at Schiphol Airport on Saturday, May 25, for attempting to leave the country with “soft drugs” in her possession, causing her to postpone the Manchester, UK date for June 3.
