Kamala Harris Secures Enough Delegates For Democratic Presidential Nomination + Gets Permission From Beyoncé To Use Song ‘Freedom’ For Her Campaign
Kamala Harris is one step closer to being the official Democratic nominee as the presidential race continues.
Last night (Monday, July 22), the current vice president earned enough delegates to secure a nomination based on an Associated Press survey. Delegations from states like Texas and Kamala Harris’ home state California gathered to show their support, and ultimately, along with other states, helped her surpass the required 1,976 delegations.
Although she was the only candidate discussed, she may have to wait until the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month to be officially announced as the nominee. Convention delegates can still vote for whoever they want, and Democrats can also hold a virtual roll call ahead of the DNC.

Reacting to the success so far, Kamala Harris said she is
“grateful to President Biden and everyone in the Democratic Party who has already put their faith in me, and I look forward to taking our case directly to the American people.”
And she’s already hitting the campaign trail. Earlier yesterday, she gave a televised speech during a campaign event in Milwaukee, marking the first since President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed Harris. She notably walked out to Beyoncé’s hit song “Freedom,” which appears to be serving as her official campaign anthem.

And Beyoncé gave her the green light.
Apparently, the Grammy winner, who is typically strict about the usage of her songs, gave Harris permission just hours before her speech, a source told CNN.
Although Beyoncé has yet to join the ranks of celebrities who have endorsed Harris, Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles made it clear Harris has her vote.
She posted an image of her and Harris standing together and wrote in the caption,
“New, Youthful, Sharp , , energy !!!! You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country ! Putting personal Ego , power and fame aside . That is the definition of a great leader, . Thank you, President Biden for your service and your leadership . Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go ???????? #kamala2024“
