‘Boy Meets World’ Star Danielle Fishel Reveals She Has Breast Cancer: ‘I’m Going To Be Fine’
Prayers are going up for Boy Meets World alum Danielle Fishel. The 43-year-old actress, most known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on the popular teen sitcom, revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
She announced the news on Monday’s (Aug. 19) episode of the Pod Meets World podcast, which she cohosts with her former costars Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
She said,
“I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer.”
She explained,
“It is very, very, very early. It’s technically stage zero. To be specific, just because I like too much information all the time, I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion.”
She added that she is “going to be fine” and will soon have surgery to get it removed.
“I’m going to be on some follow-up treatment. I’ve had to make a lot of decisions over the last couple of days.”
The actress went on to open up about how she found out the news, urging women to check on their bodies.
“The only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment. They found it so, so, so early that I’m going to be fine. I hope it will encourage anyone to get in there. If you have to find out you have cancer, find out at stage zero if possible.”
Rider Strong expressed shock and said her news was “mindboggling” as his wife and four friends are also fighting breast cancer right now.
Danielle Fishel starred in all seven seasons of Boy Meets World as the love interest of main character Cory Matthews (played by Ben Savage). She later reprised her role in the Disney reboot Girl Meets World for three seasons.
Let’s send Danielle Fishel some love and prayers in the comments!
