Cardi B Defends Calling Herself ‘Light Skinned’ After Social Media User Claims She Isn’t Black
Cardi B is once again defending herself against accusations about her skin tone.
The rapper found herself at the center of controversy over the term “light-skinned” on X (formerly Twitter).

When a user pointed out that the term is traditionally used to describe lighter-complexioned Black individuals, Cardi responded,
“Dominicans are so diverse when it comes to skin color: dark, brown, tan, light, white… sooo what am I supposed to say when I’m describing my complexion… Im Dominican skin?”

Further elaborating on her point, Cardi explained,
“The term light skin is adjective to describe skin complexion… It is not exclusive to a single race… I guess Jamaicans and Haitians and West Indians can’t say they got brown skin, light skin or dark skin because just like Dominicans, they are also a nationality.”

Another fan chimed in, expressing confusion by stating that Cardi isn’t Black, to which the rapper clapped back, writing,
“If you confuse, you need to put the blunt down because my tweet and the tweet I replied to got nothing to do with what you tweeted. You smoke out bird.”

When a fan criticized her for arguing online on her son’s birthday “for the second year in a row”, Cardi, who shares son Wave with estranged husband Offset, didn’t hesitate to hit back, saying,
“My son is with his dad. I’m getting my hair done… The fact you remember what the f*** I did last year and I don’t even remember… just shows how fanned out YOU ARE!”

Cardi B, who identifies as Afro-Latina, has frequently faced criticism for how she addresses her racial identity, with many questioning her Blackness. In a 2019 Instagram Live, she expressed her frustration with these ongoing conversations, stating,
“People just don’t be understanding s***. It’s like, ‘Cardi’s Latin, she’s not Black.’ And it’s like, bro, my features don’t come from…white people f******, okay? And they always wanna race-bait when it comes to me… I have Afro features. ‘Oh, but your parents are light-skinned… alright, but my grandparents aren’t.”

Cardi B
Cardi B has not only defended her racial identity and the way she describes her skin tone but also recently addressed concerns about skin bleaching. Last month, a fan suggested she might be bleaching her skin after a recent photo made her appear “pale.”
In reaction, Cardi B tweeted on X,
“Bleaching while pregnant? Why must y’all be so dumb? Actually NO! I’m pregnant, I’m slightly anemic, this baby sucking all the energy off my body to the point I’m pale, eyes sunken, veins green ASF, can’t tan under the sun cause I get hot super fast and dizzy… PLEASE STOP THINKING WITH YOUR A**HOLE!”
