NY Liberty Wins WNBA Championship For The 1st Time In Tense Overtime Against Minnesota Lynx
The WNBA’s New York Liberty are officially champions!
The Liberty won their first-ever championship at Barclays Center in Brooklyn last night (Sunday, October 29). After the nail-biting Game 5 match against the Minnesota Lynx went into overtime, the Liberty came out on top with a final score of 62-67.
Breanna Stewart, who sent the game into overtime with her free-throw shots, said of the milestone win,
“To be able to bring a championship to New York, the first ever in franchise history, it’s an incredible feeling. I literally can’t wait to continue to celebrate with the city, because it’s going to be bonkers.”
The win also marks a big one for New York pro basketball period as the New York Nets of the American Basketball Association last won a title in 1976 before joining the NBA.
