‘Squid Game’ Creator Says He Lost ‘8 Or 9’ Teeth From Stress During Season 1, Reveals Season 2 Is Even More Stressful
Yikes! Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed the immense stress he endured during the show’s first season.
In an interview with the BBC on Nov. 10, Dong-hyuk, 53, shared that the strain caused him to lose “8 or 9” teeth. When BBC asked him about it, he explained,
“I lost a lot of weight, and I also lost 8 or 9 teeth from the stress.” Despite this, he chose to return for Season 2, saying, “Doing the second series will help compensate me for the success of the first one too,” and adding that he didn’t “fully finish the story.”

Dong-hyuk also commented on the heightened pressure for the new season. “The stress I feel now is much greater,” he said.
“New lines are being drawn. We’re in an era of us vs them. Who’s right and who’s wrong?”
He further explained that his payment for the first season came upfront, meaning he didn’t benefit from the show’s massive success, which earned Netflix around $800 million. Season 2 of Squid Game will debut on Netflix on December 6th.
