Update: The principal of C. Paul Barnhart elementary school has spoken out after a 2nd grade student was allegedly hung by a 4th grade student in a bathroom on school grounds. The school district posted a letter the principal sent to parents, where the principal said the students were reportedly “horseplaying” when one of their jackets got caught on the stall door hook.

The school district, Charles County Public Schools released its own statement and denied claims that the true sequences of events were being covered up by school administrators.

In an interview with @wusa9 , the 7-year-old’s mother claimed her child was hospitalized after a 4th grader choked him on a bathroom stall, allegedly telling him:

“I’m gonna show you how I did people back in the day.”

The public school district says the incident was the result of “horeseplaying,” claiming the young boy got stuck on his coat zipper and was unable to free himself, at which point the 4th grader sought adult assistance.

Reports state that the parents won’t be returning their child to the school, but noted that they plan to follow up with the district about the incident.
