Donald Trump Lifts Restrictions On Immigration Arrests At Sensitive Locations Like Schools & Churches
The Trump administration has reversed policies restricting immigration enforcement at “sensitive locations” like schools and churches, allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to arrest migrants in these areas. This move is part of Donald Trump’s broader effort to carry out mass deportations, fulfilling a campaign promise to crack down on illegal immigration. The Department of Homeland Security stated that the change empowers enforcement officers to target criminals hiding in these locations.
However, advocates argue the policy could have severe consequences, deterring immigrants from seeking medical care or attending school.
Olivia Golden of the Center for Law and Social Policy expressed concerns about children witnessing arrests. Despite concerns, the administration is moving forward, with local governments and schools preparing for potential impacts. In the past, many migrants have sought sanctuary in churches, evading ICE captures.
Do you think this policy is too harsh?
